I started developing this app in 2010, to get me through JLPT, and it has been updated ever since. If I needed a feature, I added it. If it bugged, I unbugged. Most of my Japanese was probably learnt (on rush-hour, Tokyo trains) using this very app. Made by a learner for learners. Thanks for your support!

Im Justin. I moved to Japan in 2002 and Im married to my Japanese wife (lovingly called "Spellchecker"). Ive taken the JLPT tests up to N1 (yes, I was there) using this app. I speak, read and write Japanese fluently and Im an overactive developer (nearly 40 years) who just cant turn his computer off and lead a normal life.

Pros and cons of StickyStudy Japanese app for iPhone and iPad

StickyStudy Japanese app good for

Kanji are very complete. There are many examples. So it is easier to see how to apply the kanji in sentences. However, the examples are too difficult. I wish that they are easier (daily usage examples). I was a bit lost on where to start. Maybe a user guide in a "help" section would be welcome. Ayant fait des années détude du japonais, le kanji est mon point faible. Beaucoup dexemples, cest très bien mais un peu compliqué. Jaurais souhaité des exemples de phrases de la vie de tous les jours.
Handy, user friendly, excellent app for beginners or advanced learners
The best application to study. Could be more easy to edit the cards. Some kanjis without animation.
very useful for preparing for the jlpt tests!!! keep moving! :-)
Only things missing are: An option to write the kanji youself following out-greyed "ghostlines" in order to test if you knoq the right strokeorder. Furthermore, kata- and hiraganacards, which would benefit beginners and that would be easy to integrate. That aside, the app gives you everything you need and is totally worth the not-so-cheap price!
From all the numerous apps on the market this is the one that got me into studying regularly again. And forming a habit is definitely key to successful language learning. Doing the quizzes is fun and intuitive. The amount of information provided is excellent. Also the developer is very responsive to questions and dedicated to customer support. Im looking forward to using more of his apps for other areas of study!

Some bad moments

I had bought this app to help study for N3 level of JLPT. While I do know that no official list has been released for N3 there are several "unofficial" lists available that could have been used in this application as well. JLPT study, another app for iPhone, does have a list of N3 vocab and kanji. Therefore this application is absolutely unuseful for me and I wouldnt have bought it if I had known....
For the money I payed I am rather disappointed that the audio does not work at all. Without the audio there is no interest in buying this app.
This program just has you looking at flash cards... It doesnt seem to test you on anything. If I just wanted to flip through a bunch of kanji without getting tested, I would just buy a book. There is another app called Kanji that tests you - you have to choose from four options in multiple choice questions. That seems more effective
This app blew me away. Tons of added functionality like the ability to edit each individual entrys readings and meanings. Comes with all JLPT levels for kanji AND vocab, not to mention the Joyo common 2k list and grade school level sorting. A must-have companion for any serious learner!
I like the program a lot.... My Japanese wife took one look at it and said that I was studying bad fonts and it will hurt me when I see normal fonts in Japan. I would rate this five stars if the kanji looked like the kanji as it is written in the section that shows how to write the kanji.
A superbly designed source for learning Kanji, a crucial aspect of understanding Japanese writing, since Haragana and Katakana dont cover most of what is expressed, and it is the best Ive found. Once youve learned your Hs and Ks, (thats ps and qs in English) this is where to keep going.
